The Ritz-Carlton MV Evrima has made its inaugural call to Dominica on Thursday, November 24th, 2022, at the Woodbridge Bay Port. This was the first of five calls the ship will make to the island for the cruise season. Additionally, this was the first of nine ships scheduled to make inaugural calls for the 2022/2023 cruise season.
To commemorate the ship’s call, a plaque exchange ceremony was held between government officials and the ship’s captain. The ship sailed to Dominica from Bridgetown, Barbados, before sailing to Philipsburg, St. Maarten.
Built in 2022 with a capacity of 298 passengers and 246 crew, MV Evrima represents the first time the hotel company is entering into the cruise space. The mega yacht is stunning, truly a floating work of art, featuring spacious suites that all offer balconies and high ceilings, five dining rooms, various inviting common areas, multiple pools, a handful of whirlpools, a spa, fitness center, cigar lounge, and watersports marina.
As of November 17, 2022, Dominica received a total of seven cruise calls. Together, the ships brought in 8,923 cruise passengers with 87% of passengers disembarking and 57% going out on tour.
The destination is expected to welcome 51 cruise calls in December as the season moves into its peak. This promises to be fruitful for local stakeholders who depend heavily on the cruise sector. One hundred and ninety-six (196) cruise calls are projected for the 2022/2023 cruise season. This translates to 314,938 cruise passengers, compared to 189,334 passengers and 143 calls in the 2019/2020 season.
The Government of Dominica will continue its effort in the development and promotion of Dominica as a desirable cruise destination.
