Tilou Kanawa

MEANING ‘LITTLE CANOE’ IN THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE OF THE REGION’S INDIGENOUS PEOPLE, TILOU KANAWA IS AN AUTHENTIC LOCAL RESTAURANT AND BAR IN DOMINICA’S KALINAGO TERRITORY

Located roadside in the village of Salybia, Tilou Kanawa is an open-sided terrace restaurant that enjoys awesome views of the Territory’s rugged hillsides and Atlantic coastline.

The menu is an interesting fusion of traditional Kalinago and the more contemporary, with a good selection of light bites as well as full lunches and dinners. Cassava bread, made on the premises, is the base for a range of pizzas as well as Tilou Kanawa’s very popular tacos. There’s also chicken, burgers, and salads. Lunch and dinner menus offer fish and seafood dishes, along with soups, chowders, and callaloo. Traditional ingredients and sides include roucou, tonton, dasheen croquettes, and more. Ingredients are sourced locally as much as possible, and seafood comes from Kalinago fishermen.

The restaurant has a mini gift shop and can arrange tours around the Kalinago Territory. In addition to its food and drink, Tilou Kanawa is a great focal point for independent travellers with an interest in Kalinago culture.
