DDA Hosts Virtual NISE Information Session

DDA virtually hosted a Nature Island Standards of Excellence (NISE) information session targeting Safe in Nature (SIN) properties on May 5th. The virtual session aimed to increase the number of properties with NISE certification within the accommodation sector.

The virtual session informed of the importance and benefits of being NISE certified. Presentations were delivered by the Quality Assurance Unit of Discover Dominica Authority, Environmental Health Department, Fire Department and Sagicor Insurance.

Mrs. Bernadette Bernabe, Quality Assurance Officer, presented on the licensing process for the accommodation sector. Mrs. Calma Louis, Environmental Health Officer, presented on the Guidelines and Regulation of Environmental Health. Mr. Chris Cadette, a Fire Officer, presented on the certification process of fire while Mr. Desta Lander from Sagicor Insurance presented on the importance and benefits of public liability insurance as it pertains to hotels and guesthouses.

Twelve participants from the Safe in Nature properties attended the session. DDA will hold additional sessions on the importance and benefits of becoming NISE certified to create awareness with all Safe in Nature properties.

DDA recognizes the importance of having export ready accommodations in its quest to ensure    service quality and in turn increased visitor arrivals.

As of May 24, 2022, 40 properties are NISE certified. This translates to 648 NISE certified rooms on island.

DDA will continue its commitment to the development of the accommodation sector to ensure that excellent customer service impacts positively on guests’ experiences.
