In its effort to promote Dominica’s human resource development, Discover Dominica Authority and the Ministry of Tourism have contracted the services of the Barbados-based architectural firm, Design Collaborative, to formulate a plan and methodology in the establishment of a tourism and hospitality training institute.
From November 21-24, 2023, Mr. Robert O’Neal, architectural partner, and Ms. Jennifer Barrow, Director of the BCC Hospitality Institute, underwent the data gathering component of the project. The consulting team collected pertinent information from meetings held with representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Education, Dominica State College, Dominica Hotel & Tourism Association, Dominica Association of Industry & Commerce, and Dominica’s accommodation properties. The team also evaluated potential sites for the establishment of the institute with civil engineering support from the Ministry of Public Works.
The establishment of the tourism and hospitality training institute addresses the third objective of Dominica’s National Tourism Policy which seeks to “use the tourism industry as a vehicle for nation-building and an improved quality of life for Dominicans through the development of infrastructure, services, amenities, job creation, increased competitiveness and economic diversification.”
Discover Dominica Authority is excited to begin the early stages of this new development and thanks all relevant stakeholders for the support provided to date.
