Exotic Flora and Fauna
Abounding with lush rain forests, waterfalls, rivers and uninhibited coastlines, the island is a rich mine waiting to be discovered. Luckily, Fort Young Hotel now offers the opportunity to do so—all whilst giving back to the earth in the wake of a land-altering storm.
Guests will receive five nights of accommodation, roundtrip airport transfers, full breakfast daily, a tour of the island and three days of transportation to Segment 3 of the Waitukubuli National Trail: Bellevue Chopin to Watten Waven. Here, one can catch a glimpse of the Morne Trois Pitons National Park and Boiling Lake, all while admiring exotic flora, fauna, sulphur springs and hot spas.
With this package, guests will embark upon the challenging 12.8 km hike and do their part by clearing debris along the way so future travelers can, too, enjoy the trail’s bewildering beauty. And, of course, hikers will be rewarded with a soothing bath in clear waters and stunning vistas of the Giraudel Botanic Gardens.

The booking period will be valid through May 20, 2018, with the travel period comprising January 1 – May 31. The package price starts at $837 with a nightly rate discounted 25% and rates for all package components discounted 10-15%.
Mero Community Voluntourism Packages
This Community Voluntourism package focuses on connecting the volunteers with locals who need assistance with rebuilding of their homes or in their farms. This also allows the participant to gain insight into the culture of Dominicans through direct contact with many locals and sharing meals prepared in traditional ways. Accommodations will be right in the village.
Mero is a West Coast Village mid point between Roseau and Portsmouth. Most of the homes sustained some damage from Hurricane Maria. Most of the residents rely on tourism and agriculture for their main source of income. Mero is known for its unique black sand beach and friendly locals. This normally quiet tranquil village comes alive on Sunday afternoons where many can experience local bbq and ‘limin’.
Cost:
- $750US per person
- 2-4 persons can be accommodated
- Adjustments can be made for longer or shorter stays
Package includes:
- 6 nights accommodation, based on double occupancy
- 3 meals per day, most meals will be with other workers
- Port of arrival and departure transfers
- Assigned welcome host/ess for duration of stay
- Use of tools for projects,
- Safety Equipment, if necessary, gloves, safety glasses, hear protection, loan of hard hat, harness.

The rebuilding projects in Mero are facilitated through the village Community Disaster Response Team. There is an option to select either assistance with home repairs/rebuilding or assisting local farmers restore their land by clearing and planting.
