DDA Hosted Virtual NISE Information Session

For the purpose of enhancing and developing the tourism industry, a program of standards known as the Nature Island of Standards of Excellence (NISE) was developed by Discover Dominica Authority (DDA). This program is a mandate of the Tourism (Regulations and Standards) Act # 19 of 2005 and is intended to regulate and certify tourism services such as lodging, taxi and tour guiding services.

On May 5, 2022, DDA hosted a NISE information session targeting Safe in Nature (SIN) properties. The virtual session aimed at raising the NISE certification rating within the accommodation sector.  This session informed of the process, importance, and benefits of being Nature Island Standard of Excellence (NISE) certified. Presentations were delivered by the Quality Assurance Unit DDA, Environmental Health Department, Fire Department and Sagicor Insurance. The topic areas included the NISE certification process for the accommodation sector, environmental health guidelines, fire safety requirements and the importance and benefits of public liability insurance as it pertains to hotels and guesthouses.

Twelve (12) participants from the Safe in Nature properties attended the said session. DDA will hold additional sessions to create awareness to all Safe in Nature properties on the NISE Certification Program.

DDA recognizes the importance of having export ready accommodations in its quest in ensuring    quality in service delivery and in turn increased visitors’ arrivals.

As of May 4, 2022, 44 properties NISE certified. This translates to 754 NISE certified rooms on island.  DDA will continue its commitment to the development of the tourism accommodation sector to ensure that excellent customer service impact positively on guests’ experiences.
